The predecessor of the Women's Advisory Group, later called the Women's Forum, was the Women's Working Group. It was an initiative for Industry Year 1986, conceived by Baroness Beryl Platt of Writtle and Sir Geoffrey Chandler in 1984. The original remit of the former was to ensure a better understanding of the role of industry in society by all women and women's organisations, to support women currently working in industry and to encourage more young women into careers related to industry and commerce. From 5 February 1990 this remit was expanded to include the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce and was not specifically related to Manufactures and Commerce.\n\nRemit 1990:\n'The Women's Advisory Group (WAG) was the point of reference for women's views on all RSA activities and a resource to assist the fuller involvement of women in RSA programmes and projects, to contribute to the stimulation and development of new initiatives...and to promote activities, such as Women's Training Roadshows, of particular relevance to women's needs'\n\nThe Women's Advisory Group was funded by the RSA and GEC plc. The Group met quarterly.
