      Henry Cole proposed an annual display of art by British painters. At the meeting of the Fine Arts Committee on 1 February the membership of a 'sub committee for conducting the National Gallery' was discussed, and it was agreed that Richard Redgrave, A.R.A. and E Smirke, Solicitor General to the Prince of Wales be elected members of this sub committee, together with Cole.
