Note
This letter is NOT from Dr Charles Burney (1726-1814), the musicologist who appears in Barry's 'The Triumph of the Thames,' but from his son, Dr Charles Burney (1756-1817), the classical scholar and schoolmaster who kept a school at Greenwich. (information from Revd Prof Alvaro F V Ribeiro, SJ\nDepartment of English\nGeorgetown University\nWashington DC on 03/08/07). The letter appeared accurately in Joyce Hemlow's seminal 'A Catalogue of the Burney Family Correspondence 1749-1878' (New York: NYPL, 1971), p. 258.\n
