By his will of 10 July 1935 W J Parker bequeathed his residuary estate 'upon trust for the Society for the provision of a fund the income of which shall be expended in meeting the expenses of apprenticeship . . . for the benefit of the sons of poor craftsmen'. The trust property consisted of four shops in Station Approach, West Byfleet. The Society attempted to arrange for the University of Cambridge Department of Architecture to administer the educational aspects of the Trusteeship
