A committee was set up to 'take into consideration and to report how far and in what manner, the Society of Arts may aid in the promotion of such an education of the people as shall lead to a more general and systematic cultivation of arts, manufactures and commerce: the chartered objectives of the Society'. The committee consisted of Rev Dr James Booth, John Bell, Peter Le Neve Foster and Thomas Twining Jnr.
