Bus Stops of Desire, 2000/01

Tim Etchells of Forced Entertainment and Andrew Shoben of Greyworld worked with architect Irena Bauman on a project which has transformed a series of bus stops on Manchester Road in Bradford into places of intrigue and 'desire'. Forced Entertainment and Greyworld are artists' groups which specialise in bringing vivid experiences to tricky urban spaces. The bus stops enhanced key city access routes and became a focus for public interaction. The project was completed in 2002. Client: Bradford Metropolitan District Council. Award value £10,000.

Hannah Collins worked with the architect Jonathan McDowell of McDowell & Benedetti to devise visual and environmental aspects this new nursing home in Lewisham. Collins' intervention was multi-dimensional and integral to the fabric of the building, reflecting the lives of those who live and work in the home. The project was completed in 1999. Client: The Merchant Taylors' Company. Award value £10,000.

Garry Fabian Miller liaised with architect Richard Murphy on the initial design proposals for a gallery and study centre which will explore the ecological environment and the relationship between the arts and the natural sciences. Fabian Miller also worked closely with landscape architects Gross Max who were appointed to the project at a later stage, and advised on an artist open submission process. The project was completed in 2001. Client: Buildings at Risk Trust. Award value £5,000.

Clive Gillman, lead artist of Liverpool's FACT centre, collaborated with the architect Mike Yates of Austin-Smith:Lord to develop an interactive computer programme designed to support an understanding of the form and functions of this new media arts centre. This ensures the experience of the centre is meaningful to disabled people who may not be able to engage with the building in more conventional ways. The project was completed in 2001. Client: FACT. Award value £8,000.
