Ceiling detail from Adam's own house in the Royal Terrace, which he lived in from 1772 to 1786, although it was demolished with the rest of the Adelphi scheme in 1936, the inset paintings were saved

The brick arches were built to support terraces of houses and to provide access roads in the lower levels of the scheme
