The garden party was held by the Anglo-Turkish Society at the Chelsea Arts Club in honour of Dame Ninette de Valois who started a ballet school in Turkey in 1948 at the invitation of the Turkish Government. She received the Albert Medal 'for her services to the art of ballet'
