Background to the RSA's history

Gordon Young led a team of fellow artists to work with planners, landscape architects and engineers on the creation of a new sea front and centre in Morcambe. Using the unique natural environment of Morcambe Bay as inspiration, the artists produced sketchbooks of ideas, many of which were implemented on the project, eg street furniture, hard landsacping, pavement games and other features for the public spaces. The project was completed in 1995. Client: Lancaster City Council. Award value £12,000.
