File on the Atlantic Canada Medal
A Royal Society of Arts Medal to be awarded to a person who has contributed significantly to the Atlantic Provinces of Canada.
The first year of the medal's being awarded, to someone wo has contributed significantly to the environmental welfare of the whole Atlantic region.
Sponsors are asked to submit names of suitable persons to the Medal Awards Committee or to any Atlantic Fellow of the RSA for forwarding to the Medal Awards Committee. Nominations were accompanied by a standard and up-to-date curriculum Vitae (or equivalent) and a covering letter from the sponsor outlining those things which make the nominee worthy of consideration for this medal. Sponsors were also asked to submit names of three other persons who would be willing to attest to the nominee's suitability.
Recipients of the medal were Joseph Sherman, Walter J Learning and James Rhodenizer

November 1963 - November 1989.\nThe minutes detail the main functions of the Membership Committee which scrutinised applications and dealt with resignation and removals from the Society. It also discussed issues such as alterations to the age limit for membership, the election of Honorary Corresponding Members and individual cases for reduced fees and life-long membership.

Information on Fellows has been gathered since foundation of the Society, although this has always been for administrative/financial reasons. Fellowship lists exist in various formats:\nSubscription lists (manuscript) from 1754 to 1986: early volumes are bound, late 20th century ledgers are loose leaf. There are gaps.\nPrinted lists of Members/Fellows also appear bound into the volumes of Transactions, later the Journal, for most years. In the 1970s and 80s, separate printed lists were published.\nInformation contained in lists includes name and ususally address, date of election and year of resignation ('declined') or death, if specifically noted. Early lists include details of proposer and some also include Member's area of interest or profession.\nMembership lists do not include any further biographical information.
