Correspondence relating to the administration of the event. Includes a transcript of the speech given by Prue Leith.

The first file, dated 1995, contains correspondence and papers relating to the development of the project and its funding. It includes an 'Outline description of the Project', Proposals I and II, a summary of suggestions made by the public with reasons for their acceptance or rejection and a procedural guide to erecting a statue in Westminster. There are also Progress Reports on the Statue dated 25 August and 13 September 1995.

The second file, dated 1995-2000, contains correspondence relating to a variety of issues concern the administration of the project.

Correspondence in the form of letters, faxes, postcards and emails from the public with suggestions for a statue for the Fourth Plinth and comments on the statues which were finally chosen. Many of the suggestions were generated from a competition held by Outlook BBC World Service. Included is photocopied pages of comments from the Canadian High Commission, and the entries of a class of 12th Form students at the Extended School in Schwedt. There is a brief summary of the suggestions.

The file contains print-outs from the Fourth Plinth web site giving details of the project and the artists involved. It also includes correspondence on the forma and contents of the web site.

The Fourth Plinth project was initiated by RSA past Chairman Prue Leith. The RSA's central aims in this initiative were to: use the plinth to display works of art after the 150 year deadlock; raise the level of debate about the nature of public art today; and inform decisions about the plinth's permanent use. The project was co-ordinated by the RSA.

All files were appraised and routine correspondence removed.

The series consists of the administrative records from the initiation of discussions about the empty plinth to the the display of the scupltures: Ecce Homo by Mark Wallinger, Regardless of History by Bill Woodrow and Monument by Rachel Whiteread.
