Two series: Assistant secretary's files and Director's files.
The file consists of correspondence to and between committee members about committee membership, finances, working parties and themes for conferences; many of the letters include individual comments on the direction of the committee and subjects tackled by it. The file also includes chairman's notes and a number of papers, written by the assistant secretary and presented at Committee meetings.
The Environment Committee was formed in 1971 and had its first meeting on 20 January 1972. The committee's remit was to review major issues, trends and developments affecting the environment in Great Britain and abroad and provide a pool of relevant information; co-operate with studies and proposals made by other bodies; and arrange conferences and lectures. The Committee met three times a year.
These Minutes date from the Committee's first meeting on 20 January 1972 - 21 October 1982.\n
