Typical late 16th century cottages of district, probably built for Flemish and Dutch weavers. Spaces between upper windows (which appear to have been altered) and those on ground floor of bays, are parged. Curiously worked coloured lozenged patterning in the gables of the dormers

Held in 1850 the Exhibition of Ancient and Medieval Art was organised by Augustus Wollaston Franks, this was a display of antiquities.\nDrawn and engraved under the superintendence of Philip De La Motte.

The Society administered a series of arts scholarships, particularly music and dance from the 1970s to 1990. These were merged into an arts committee which looked at general arts policy. Several consultations were also undertaken by this body.\nIncludes minutes of meetings and papers, correspondence and notes.
The Society of Artists of Great Britain went on to found the Royal Academy. The group formed after the 1760 exhibition, when there was a dispute over how the proceeds from the sale of the exhibition catalogue should be spent.
