The British Museum and the RSA established the award to encourage the improvement of design in museums and equipment in them and to encourage young designers to concentrate on such problems.\n\nCorrespondence and working papers relating to the establishment of the award. The medal and a cash prize, to be used by the winners for the same travel or industrial attachment purpose as the RSA Bursary, was given to an outstanding student in the set design disciplines. Medal winners were selected from the winning and highly commended entries of the Design Bursaries competition by a judging panel comprising Members and Fellows of the Chartered Society of Designers and presented in conjunction with the RSA's Design Bursaries Competition at ceremonies held in May.

Won 'The Northamptonshire Footwear Manufacturers' Design Award' worth £2500 under the the 'Mail Order Catalogue' brief in the 'Footwear' section. Worked for a year with Grenson shoes and spent twelve weeks studying at the ARS Sutoria Technical College in Milan.

Won the 'Addison Attachment Award' worth £1500 under the 'Archaelogical Dig Viewing Centre' brief in the 'Leisure & Retail' sector. Worked with Addison Design Consultancy for five weeks.

Won the 'Courtaulds Textiles Limited Attachment Award' under the 'Outfits from a Theme' brief in the 'Fashion' section. Spent eight weeks working with Courtaulds.
