The Design Section involved itself from time to time with other societies in the promotion of Design, often to encourage different Design bodies to co-operate with each other.

Administrative correspondence, including a Memorandum and Articles of Association relating to the Association of Societies of Art and Design Limited was established to promote the education of the community by encouraging the understanding, appreciation and development of the arts and design in whatever media expressed. The Association was formed by the five societies representing the related professions of artist and designer namely the Institute of Contemporary Arts, the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers, the Design and Industries Association, the Institute of Landscape Architects, and the Design and Art Directors Association in 1966. The Association was liquidated in 1970.

Won the J Sainsbury Plc Attachment Award of £625 including £1200 Travel Award in the 'Packaging' section. Travelled to Helsinki, Stockholm and Copenhagen for nine days.

Won Travel Awards worth £850 each in the 'Furniture' section. Travelled to the Milan Fair 1994.

Won the Miss A M Johns Charitable Trust Travel Award worth £400 and a Travel Award of £200 unde the 'Artificial Intelligence' brief in the 'Animation' section. Travelled to New York.

Won a Travel Award worth £900 under the 'Innovation' brief in the 'Graphics' section. Travelled to Australia for two weeks in February 1999. His report is on a CD. Includes an article that he wrote for Pharmaceutical marketing.

Won the Dartington Crystal Attachment Award of £2325 in the 'Homeware' section. Worked with Dartington Crystal Ltd from 2 July - 28 September 2001.

Instituted in 1954 as a permanent commemoration of the Society's Bicentenary. Bicentenary Medal is awarded to a person, who, in a manner other than an industrial designer, has exerted exceptional influence in promoting art and design in British industry. The recipient may or may not be a designer, the medal recognises the influence which extends beyond the winner's own design work.\n\nThe Design Advisory Group select a suitable recipient for ratification by the Council's Executive Committee on behalf of the full RSA Council.

The obverse shows the heads of Minerva and Mercury, and has been struck from the original die of a medal which the Society first used in 1820. It was designed by William Wyon RA, based on an earlier design by John Flaxman RA. The lettering on the reverse is new and was cut by George T Friend to the design of John R Biggs. The medal is silver gilt
