The Exhibition was held in the galleries of the Royal Academy and was organised jointly by the RSA and the Royal Academy. The objects of the exhibition were to 'impress upon the public the importance of good design in articles of everyday use; to show that British manufacturers, in co-operation with British artists, are capable of producing in all branches of industry, articles which combine artistic form with utility and sound workmanship; to encourage British artists to give to industry the benefit of their talent and training so that the objects with which we are surrounded in our daily lives may have an appearance which is not only attractive but is based on genuinely artistic principles'. The exhibition was held under Royal Patronage and with the active participation of HRH the Prince of Wales as President of the General Committee\n\nRecords comprise photographs and copy photographs of items displayed at the Exhibition

Bus Stops of Desire, 2000/01

Tim Etchells of Forced Entertainment and Andrew Shoben of Greyworld worked with architect Irena Bauman on a project which has transformed a series of bus stops on Manchester Road in Bradford into places of intrigue and 'desire'. Forced Entertainment and Greyworld are artists' groups which specialise in bringing vivid experiences to tricky urban spaces. The bus stops enhanced key city access routes and became a focus for public interaction. The project was completed in 2002. Client: Bradford Metropolitan District Council. Award value £10,000.

Ron Haselden worked with Lynn Kinnear of Kinnear Landscape Architects on this new play environment and public arts space within the regenerated grounds of an inner-city London school. Haselden considered the historical and physical nature of the site creating an accessible space for sculpture, play and public arts and forging new links between school and commnity. The project was completed in 1998. Client: Canonbury Infant and Junior Schools. Award value £5,000.

Cardiff Old Library, 1994/95

Amber Hiscott worked with Noel Architects on the conversion of the Old Library in Cardiff into a major centre for the visual arts. The £6.2m scheme includes a number of facilities including two galleries for twentieth century art and a children's discovery centre. Artist and architect worked together to identify opportunities for the involvement of other artists and craftspeople during the later stages of the project. The project was completed in 1997. Client: Cardiff Old Library Trust. Award value £6,500.
