Yinka Shonibare worked with MODE 1 Architects on this hospital refurbishment scheme to build and enhance a respite care centre for people with mental health difficulties. Shonibare proposed artworks integral to the design and use of the building. The artist was paid for his design input but the project plans were shelved due to financial constraints. Heather Ackroyd and Daniel Harvey were appointed as artists in residence at the William Dunn School of Pathology in Oxford, to research and design two courtyard spaces in collaboration with architect Clive Guyer of Llewelyn Davis. The artists have been treated as visiting fellows to the School of Pathology throughout the duration of their collaboration. The project was completed in 1999.
